Founded in 2005, 1718 a New Orleans Reading series is a student-run literary society that is jointly run by Tulane University, Loyola University of New Orleans, and University of New Orleans. 1718 aims to increase networking between students attending Loyola, Tulane, and the University of New Orleans, offer student writers the opportunity to showcase their work, help expand students’ awareness of the literary culture of New Orleans, and bring in talented, published writers for a professional, monthly reading series.

The monthly reading series has one published author as a “Featured Reader” as well as two to three “Student Readers” from either Tulane, Loyola, or UNO. These readings happen on the first Tuesday of each month during the academic year, at 7pm at the Columns Hotel on St. Charles.
